Dream Song - Nathan Somevi (2024)

Inspiration: Afrobeat, Blues, and Jazz

"Dream Song" came to life after a vivid dream during a time when I was battling writer's block. In the dream, I was performing at a concert, and this song was the final tune of the night. It felt so powerful that I had to force myself to wake up to capture it. It was like wearing a weight vest just to jot the idea down on my phone, knowing that if I didn’t get it down right then, the idea would be lost forever.

The song blends Afrobeat rhythms with hints of blues and jazz, using horns, flute, guitar, bass, and percussion to create a flowing yet grounded melody. It reflects the urgency and emotion I felt in the moment—something fleeting that needed to be captured before it slipped away.
