I Present My Unwanted Story - Kadi Johnson (2024)

Kadi Johnson

My name is Kadijatu Johnson, commonly known as Kadi. I was born in London but my parents moved back home to Sierra Leone when I was just  3years old. I grew up in Sierra Leone with my two sisters and brother. I returned back to the United Kingdom when I was 17 years old. On my return I continued with my education studies which landed me in Scotland in the year 2000 where I continued to study to become a Staff Nurse and qualified in the year 2003.

I am married and blessed with two beautiful daughters. Since qualifying I have worked in the private care sector, NHS Lothian and NHS Fife for many years of my nursing career, and amongst other things being a director of a nursing agency that delivered stellar care to vulnerable members of society.

Coming from a close family, I persuaded my brother (Sheku Bayoh) to join me in Scotland in 2002 where we all lived happily. Unfortunately my brother was tragically killed at the hands of the police in 2015. Within this context, I found courage and fortitude to seek justice for my dear brother. Forming a campaign group the Sheku Bayoh Campaign where I continue to raise awareness and push for institutional reform to address structural injustice within society.
