Still Here: Black presence and persistence in Wales (part 2)
This artwork integrates audio recordings with a dynamic multimedia backdrop to create an immersive experience. The centrepiece of this project is a series of four monologues that explore deeply personal and resonant themes. These themes include language, identity, faith as a component of identity, the experience of being a woman in a new country, bullying, education, social life, and work.
There is a monologue in a language other than English, highlighting our language diversity. Each monologue is approximately 2-3 minutes and was translated into Welsh captions which are displayed. The artwork also includes a recorded group discussion. This component features gentle conversations and observations about the personal and collective experiences of being Black in Wales.
Through this blend of personal monologues and communal dialogue, the project aims to create a powerful and immersive exploration of identity, culture, and experience, fostering a deeper understanding of the diverse narratives within Wales.
